The Sound Healing Ensemble takes the principles and practices found in several sound healing traditions and integrates them with musical stylings from various genres, including jazz and world music. John Paul has spent 20 years creating music in New Orleans, Nashville, and Tampa Bay, and this project connects the intentions and benefits of sound healing in a more accessible.

What separates this group from your average band? Sound plus intention equals healing, and when several incredibly talented, open-hearted musicians put their intentions towards a healing outcome, the entrainment effect is multiplied. In addition, the pieces and flow of a performance is designed around this healing outcome, be it a relaxing restorative, even contemplative intention, or a rousing, energy releasing dancing performance.

Performance Modalities

  • Chakra Tonings – We lead audiences through a participatory toning exercise designed to harmonize and balance the chakras, activating the body’s natural subtle energy system.
  • Mantra / Kirtan Chanting – We’ve arranged several classic Sanskrit mantras to music, and facilitate audiences to chant and sing these ancient phrases together, enhancing their effect.
  • Simple Breathwork – We have several pieces designed to facilitate simple breathwork, like block breathing and alternate nostril breathing. These can be powerful techniques for inducing a relaxation response and balancing the body.
  • World Music Classics – We include songs from other cultures that inspire wonder, such as the African desert blues guitarist and singer Boubacar Traoré.
  • Original Compositions – We also play some original compositions designed to heal and open the hearts of our audience members.

This ancient hermetic philosophy refers to the idea that what we perceive is a reflection of our internal consciousness and vice-versa. When we feel a response to a friend’s smile, an angry political post, or a sunset, these are reflections not of them, but of ourselves. With this mindset, and a great deal of courage, our triggers can be our greatest teachers. It is my hope that this melody inspires such courage in you and your beautiful heart.

“Moss World”

“Moss World” invites us to imagine being ant-sized in a lush, primordial world of moss. Frequently disregarded, and even reviled, moss is the foundation of many ecosystems, growing long before grasses or trees. This groovy, bluesy piece gently pushes us to step into a deep gratification for the natural world and embrace it’s smallest organisms with love.

“Breathe Like Clouds”

“Breathe Like Clouds” is a flowing, gentle piece designed to promote grounding and encourage gentle, restorative breathing.
